Crunchyroll’s reduced premium video quality is either deliberate cost-cutting or catastrophic incompetence
Spoiler, not because of incompetence.
CR plans, what theorized:
1. lower quality video
2. less bandwidth used
3. less money spent on bandwidth
4. more profit
After all the ruse their paid subscriber raised, they're now use back the old quality video for simulcast anime for 48hrs before reverting back to the new low quality video. All their other videos (existing ones) are in the new low quality encode.
